Déanfaidh siad plé ar thurasóireacht chultúrtha agus ar an éileamh atá ar an Ghaeilge, ar chultúr agus ar oidreacht na hÉireann do dhaoine ar fud an domhain, go háirithe i dtaca le stair Ard Mhacha. Ar deireadh, foghlaimeoidh siad faoi na cultúir éagsúla atá thart timpeall orthu, faoi na cosúlachtaí agus faoi na difríochtaí idir an dá mhórthraidisiúin anseo in Éirinn agus faoi chultúir na ndaoine sin atá i ndiaidh teacht ó thíortha eile.

Beidh ar na daltaí cur i láthair a dhéanamh ag deireadh an chúrsa ar nós an Dragons’ Den le smaointí agus moltaí ar fhiontraíocht chultúrtha a chur in iúl. Tá an cúrsa creidiúnaithe ag Ollscoil na Banríona agus tá 5 pointí CATS ag dul leis, rud a rachaidh go mór chun tairbhe na ndaltaí sin atá ag comhlánú foirmeacha UCAS. Irish students in Armagh will soon have an opportunity to take part in a new and exciting course about the role of the Irish language and culture in society. CAIRDE Teo has secured funding from Unlimited to develop a new cultural enterprise course, which will be delivered in Armagh in conjunction with Queen’s University Belfast.

The participants will learn about the role of the Irish language and culture as part of their daily lives and as part of the wider society. They will hear about the advantages that the Irish language and bilingualism can offer them for their future careers and how they can contribute to make Irish a visible and accepted part of mainstream society and public life.  They will also address community development and how the Irish language and Irish culture can be used to improve aspects of society and community cohesion. They will also learn about social enterprise and how generating revenue from cultural ventures can benefit the overall community, particularly in the local context of the Irish language. They will discuss cultural tourism and the appeal that the Irish language, culture and heritage has for many people across the world and how this relates to the past and present situation in Armagh. Finally, the students will learn about other cultures in our area, about the similarities and differences between the two major traditions here in Ireland and of the cultures of newcomers from different parts of the world.

The course will include talks by guest speakers and two trips to Irish language enterprises; one trip will be to the Gaeltacht Quarter in West Belfast and a second trip will be to Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin in Derry. The students will be asked to make a Dragons’ Den-style presentation to convey their ideas and suggestions for cultural enterprises. This course is accredited by Queens University and offers 5 extra CATS points for students who are filling in their UCAS forms. If you require further information on the course, you can contact Seán on 028 3751 5229 or sean@cairdeteo.com.
