The popular Irish language evening classes organised by CAIRDE Teo will return on Wednesday 25 January in the Irish medium unit at St Catherine’s College, Convent Road, Armagh.  Due to high levels of demand, an extra class and an additional tutor has been added to the teaching programme.  Students will now be seperated into beginners, lower intermediate, higher intermediate and advanced classes.

The second term will last for nine weeks with classes each Wednesday evening until 28th March. Students are asked to note that there will be a 1 week break on 15 February coinciding with the school’s mid-term holiday. New students who didn’t enrol for the first term are welcome to join the classes at this stage.

Fees for the second term will be £30 with a concessionary rate of £15 for full-time students, unemployed and pensioners.

You are requested to register for the second term before classes commence and you can do so at the CAIRDE Teo office in the CULT ÚR shop upstairs in Armagh City Shopping Centre (Eurospar). The office is open each week day from 9am to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm and there will be late opening to 7pm on Monday 16 January, Wednesday 18 January and  Tuesday 24 January in order to facilitate registration.

To complement the evening classes, CAIRDE in association with Cumann Luthchleas Gael Ard Mhacha will also be organising a series of six ‘dianchúrsa‘ or intensive all day sessions in 2012 beginning Saturday 11th February. Further sessions will be delivered on the second Saturday in April, May, June, September and November. These sessions will be delivered at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh City.

For more advanced learners, CAIRDE has introduced a new programme for people who have enlisted for the ‘Líofa 2015’ campaign, launched by Culture Minister Caral Ní Chuilin last year. Eight learners will get the opportunity to join an intensive course of learning to improve their fluency in spoken Irish. This course will require considerable commitment as it entails a series of six residentials in the Donegal Gaeltacht where students will embark on a structured programme of learning and practical work as well as immersion in the language and culture of the Gaeltacht. All teaching will be through the medium of Irish and students on this project will be requested to use Irish at all times inside and outside the immediate learning environment.

The ‘Líofa Ard Mhacha’ Project will be launched in Armagh by the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure in January 2012 when she visits the City for the official opening of the new CAIRDE offices and ‘CULT ÚR’ the Irish Language Gift Shop in Armagh City Shopping Centre.
