Bhí an tAire Cultúir, Ealaíon agus Fóillíochta, Carál Ní Chuilín i láthair ag Páirc Lúthchleasaíochta Uí Mhuireagáin Dé Sathairn leis an scéim Líofa 2015 a lainseáil ag dianchúrsaí Gaeilge CAIRDE Teo agus le scoláireachtaí CLG Ard Mhacha a bhronnadh ar 38 dalta ó achan chuid den chontae.

Bhí Coiste Cultúir de Bhord Contae Ard Mhacha iontach sásta leis an méid daoine óga a chuir isteach ar na scoláireachtaí Gaeltachta. Bronnadh scoláireachtaí ar dhaltaí ó chlubanna CLG ó gach cuid de Chontae Ard Mhacha agus beidh siad ag freastal ar choláistí Gaeltachta i nDún na nGall an samhradh seo, mar shampla Machaire Rabhartaigh, Bun an Inbhir, Rann na Feirste agus Loch an Iúir.

Labhair an tAire Carál Ní Chuilín leis na daoine a bhí ag freastal ar dhianchúrsaí Gaeilge Cairde Teo agus CLG Ard Mhacha faoin fheachtas Líofa 2015 a bhfuil sé mar sprioc aige 2,015 díograiseoirí Gaeilge a spreagadh líofacht a bhaint amach sa Ghaeilge roimh 2015. Labhair an tAire faoin ról atá ag an CLG leis an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn i bpobail ar fud na tíre agus labhair sí faoin ghrá atá aici féin don iomáint.

Chuir Cathaoirleach Bhord Contae Ard Mhacha, Pól Ó Dúgáin, chuir sé fáilte roimh an Aire agus labhair sé faoin bhród atá aige go bhfuil an Cumann Lúthchleas Gael in Ard Mhacha chun tosaigh maidir le cur chun cinn na Gaeilge agus cur chun cinn an chultúir.  Thug sé ardmholadh do Pheadar Mac Murchaidh, Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Cultúir le Bord Contae Ard Mhacha agus don choiste cultúir atá ag obair go dian dícheallach leis an Ghaeilge agus an cultúr a chothú sa CLG.

In ainneoin sceideal gnóthach an Aire, chuaigh sí isteach sa mheánrang agus chruthaigh sí go bhfuil sí ag déanamh bearta de réir briathar agus í tiomanta Gaeilge líofa a bheith aici roimh 2015. Is cinnte gur bhain sí an-sult as an chuairt seo ar Ard Mhacha.

The Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure Carál Ní Chuilín visited Morgan Athletics Grounds the home of GAA in Armagh city to present GAA Gaeltacht Scholarships, to speak about her Líofa 2015 campaign and to launch Campa Mhacha.

The Irish Language & Cultural Committee of the Armagh County Board of the GAA were delighted with the turn out for this year’s Gaeltacht scholarships and with this high profile presentation. The recipients came from GAA clubs from across County Armagh and will attend various Gaeltacht colleges in Donegal this Summer e.g. Machaire Rabhartaigh, Bun an Inbhir, Rann na Feirste and Loch an Iúir.

Minister Carál Ní Chuilín spoke to those attending the Armagh GAA & Cairde Teo Irish Language Intensive course about the Líofa 2015 campaign that aims to encourage 2,015 Irish Language enthusiasts to become fluent by the year 2015. The Minister also spoke of the crucial role that the GAA play in communities throughout the country and about her own particular love of hurling.

Pól Ó Dúgáin, Chairman of Armagh County Board, welcomed the Minister to Morgan Athletics Grounds and to the Ceannáras and said that he was proud of the strong tradition of supporting Irish language and culture within Armagh GAA alongside the Gaelic sporting codes.  He praised Peter Murphy, the Irish language and Cultural officer with the Armagh County Board, who leads a dedicated team in promoting the Irish language and culture within the GAA family.

Minister Ní Chuilín’s final duty of the day was to officially launch the sixth annual Campa Mhacha which is organised by CAIRDE Teo in Armagh City. Demand for places has already exceeded all expectations and organisers have this year extended the Camp to make 160 places available to primary school children from both Irish and English medium schools in the area. Campa Mhacha offers opportunities to visit places as diverse as Coney Island, Belfast Zoo, Croke Park, Armagh Planetarium, Eamhain Mhacha and Armagh Gaol. Activities on offer will include hurling, camogie, rounders, arts and crafts, dance and music workshops, films, drama, etc. A limited number of places are still available for this year’s camp. For further details or to register your child for this unique cultural experience, please contact CAIRDE Teo’s office on 028 (048) 37 515229 or email sean@cairdeteo.com. Despite having such a busy schedule, the minister took time out to join one of the many Irish language classes available on the day and by all accounts she was a very willing andcapable student who clearly enjoyed her visit to the hallowed grounds of GAA in Armagh city.
