OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAArmagh will host one of Ireland’s most famous storytellers, Eddie Lenihan from County Clare, when he visits the cathedral city on Saturday 26 October to take part in a special Irish and English bilingual event for children, which is being organised by local Irish language organisation CAIRDE Teo. The storytelling will take place in the Athletic Grounds in Armagh from 11am to 1pm and Eddie will be joined by our very own Armagh Rhymers.

Eddie has travelled throughout Ireland, visiting schools, libraries and festivals with his storytelling, but his travels have also taken him to the USA, UK, Germany, Belgium, Finland and France, amongst other places. Eddie’s passion for preserving stories of the síoga (fairies) and the fathaigh (giants) have kept children and adults entertained for many years. Eddie has also written a comprehensive catalogue of storybooks for children and local history books for adults. He has been described as “a master storyteller” by the Newsletter and as “Ireland’s greatest living storyteller” by the Clare Champion.

The Armagh Rhymers are known throughout the world for their wonderful array of music, drama, and poetry. While travelling extensively throughout Ireland and appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Smithsonian Festival and Milwaulkee Irish Festival, the Rhymers enjoy spending time with the children of Armagh. The Rhymers have proved to be a massive hit with the children at the annual Irish medium summer scheme in Armagh, Campa Mhacha, and the children will be delighted to welcome back these familiar masked faces.

This storytelling event is free and will be in Irish and in English. The event is being organised by CAIRDE Teo, with the financial assistance of Foras na Gaeilge. For more information, contact Seán at sean@cairdeteo.com or 028 3751 5229.
