Starting on the 20 November Gaeláras Mhic Ardghail, Chapel Street, Newry, will be hosting workshops on Omeath Irish.
The sessions will begin at 7:00 pm and go on until 8:30.
They will focus on spoken Omeath Irish and on the folklore of the district.
Participants don’t need to be fluent Irish speakers but the sessions will not be suitable for beginners.
Omeath Irish has been extinct since the 1970s but the area was one of the final redoubts of the language in the East of Ireland and many recordings and much folklore surivive.
The workshops will be facilitated by Clonduff man Ciarán Dunbar who has written a book on the dialect, Cnuasach Focal as Oirialla.
