Today Energia were announced as Seachtain na Gaeilge’s partners for 2017. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia will take place from 1 – 17 March 2017. This year’s ambassadors are RTÉ presenter, Miriam O’Callaghan; Game of Thrones & Kubo and The Two Strings actor, Art Parkinson; along with TG4 presenter Mícheál Ó Ciaraidh. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia are hoping to have more events than ever this year with thanks to the support Energia’s partnership will be provide.
Art Parkinson who played the part of Rickon Stark in Game of Thrones is also nominated for an Annie Award for his part in Kubo and The Two Strings. The animated film, in which Art voices the main character Kubo, was nominated for a Golden Globe and is also nominated for 12 Annie Awards. Art was chosen as one of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia’s ambassadors as he is a fluent Irish speaker and is taught all of his subjects through Irish as he travels around the world.
Art Parkinson, Actor and ambassador for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia says:
‘I’m a very proud Irish speaker and love using it everyday, no matter where I am in the world. Why not organise an event for Seachtain na Gaeilge to use your cúpla focal!’
This coming Friday, 20 January 2017, is the deadline to register Irish-language events with Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia at www.peig.ie. The festival’s support fund has been increased thanks to the support of Energia this year, and Seachtain na Gaeilge hope that this will result in the highest number of registered events for the festival than ever before.
