Armagh is recognised throughout the world for its links with Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, and many people will visit the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland on Friday to join in the celebrations for St Patrick’s Day. While masses and church services will be held throughout the city and diocese, the Irish language community and those who would like to experience a special Irish language spiritual experience are being invited to come along to two events in particular.
On the morning of St Patrick’s Day, St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral will host a special Irish language mass at 9am, read by Monsignor Réamonn Ó Muirí. Regular attendees at the weekly Irish language mass on Saturday evenings are being encouraged to come along and a special invitation is being extended to all mass goers within Armagh parish and within the Armagh archdiocese. A special Irish language service to celebrate the Eucharist will take place at 10am in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral. The service will be led by Reverend Canon David Hilliard, a member of the Cathedral Chapter, and Prebendary of Tynan. All are welcome to take part in these special spiritual celebrations in honour of our patron saint.
