A large contingent of Irish speaking families from Armagh joined Cairde Teo at the weekend for a Christmas day trip to Béal Feirste to meet Daidí na Nollag, Santa Clause, and to soak up the festive atmosphere in the city.
The group visited Cultúrlann Mac Adaim Ó Fiaich, the Irish language cultural centre on the Fall Road, to watch this year’s Irish language Christmas pantomime, which was staged by the Armagh Rhymers. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the interactive aspect of the pantomime and many of the children even joined the Rhymers to perform, dance and sing on stage in front of a packed theatre. At the end of the pantomime, the children got the chance to meet Daidí na Nollag and remind him of their Christmas present and everyone received a gift from Santa.
Following the pantomime and visit to Daidí na Nollag, the Armagh contingent travelled across to the city centre to enjoy the atmosphere at the Christmas markets at Belfast City Hall. Having visited the various stalls and sampled some of the diverse range of foods and confectionaries on offer, the group of Gaeilgeoirí returned to Armagh having enjoyed a great day of fun entertainment and shopping.
