Raidió Mhacha was established in 2016 to create opportunities for young people to gain employment, work experience and vocational qualifications in the cultural and creative industries in Armagh City.

The Irish language station was the brainchild of young people aged 16-18 years old and it provides an excellent opportunity for work sampling, training and the acquisition of transferable skills in broadcasting, editing, presentation and interview techniques. The on-line station is an educational tool aimed at the promotion of traditional arts and culture, communication and information sharing, entertainment and current affairs.

Raidió Mhacha will also strive to improve awareness and promote discussion of solutions to youth issues ranging from unemployment, low educational attainment, social isolation, housing and mental health issues.

Our volunteers have received training and support from other community radio stations including Raidió Fáilte, Raidió na Life, Radio Reason and Radio Coalisland. Raidió Mhacha

Local community radio has proved to be a great way of facilitating inter-generational understanding and social cohesion, by giving young people a platform to discuss issues and concerns at a local level. It is also an excellent way for young people to access informative local material that wouldn’t otherwise get radio airplay. It’s a democratic resource for the exploration of the issues that affect young people, giving everyone an equal chance to express their views and ideas. Community Radio is often the only way that young people with little or no experience of the broadcast media can find a voice and a means of expressing their ideas and creativity.
